World Book Day

Our World Book Day celebration, organised by Mrs Turner, was a huge success – probably our best ever! The whole school focus on one book, ‘Bee and Me’ by Alison Jay, really brought the school together and the children and staff looked amazing in their bee t-shirts!

Of course, every opportunity was taken to develop the children’s reading skills and their love of reading, which is an improvement priority for the school. With this in mind, KS2 children also enjoyed a Poetry Day, led by the poet, Matt Goodfellow.

We appreciate all the support that many of our parents give to their children with reading at home – please listen to your children read as often as possible and also read to them so that they enjoy a range of stories and develop a wider vocabulary. Model reading lessons for parents have already been held in some year groups and will take place for other year groups after Easter. Please attend if you are able so that you
have a greater understanding of the high expectations of the reading curriculum in your child’s year group. Also, you may have noticed stickers in your child’s reading record – these will give further information about our current reading focus and ways you can help at
